“A Message of Courage, Kindness and Friendship.”

They say a picture paints a thousand words and with this in mind I’m overjoyed to share some photos of a young lady enjoying my children’s book “Oskar’s Quest”.

However, words still play a huge role and I’m very happy to include the following five-star review of the book by Erica, the girl’s grandmother and best friend!

“Oskar’s Quest” is a beautifully illustrated book sharing a message of courage, kindness and friendship. Annika Perry has a gift for writing up, not down to children. Even very young children are attentive, curious and observant. My four year old Granddaughter and I love reading “Oskar’s Quest!” My Granddaughter has already memorized parts of this book, especially the sound effects. She loves following “Oskar,” the blue bird, and “Maya,” the golden bird, throughout the story. Often a key to an engaging children’s book is how the adult also enjoys reading the book over and over and over again. I highly recommend “Oskar’s Quest!”

Many thanks to Erica not only for this wonderful review, but also for the permission to use the photographs of Abby. The copyright of these is held by Erica.

I have only known Erica a few months here on WP and already value her as a kind and thoughtful friend. Although not a reviewer before she quickly understood how important and key reviews are to a writer.

An inspirational person, her posts are always a joy to read, touching on adventures, travels, family and nature! She is also humble and almost by accident I learnt of her travel writing, love of running, taking part in Half Corked Marathon and Great Walk of 63.5 km. Do take a look at her blog Behind The Scenery.

Finally, I am elated to announce the first foreign language version of “Oskar’s Quest”. The translator, Marion Roberts, worked tirelessly to translate my children’s book … working wonders with text and especially the popular albeit tricky sound effect/onomatopoeic words!

Heartfelt thanks to David Cronin for formatting the latest version of my book and I appreciate all his work – without his help it would not be here! As simple as that!

Below is a picture of my favourite teddy, Minky, as he’s enjoying “Oskar’s Abenteuer”. Luckily he’s fluent in German having accompanied me on my studies at the Karl-Marx University in Leipzig and University of Tübingen. (btw. ‘Abenteuer’ means ‘Adventure’)

    1. Julie, thank you so much … the review had me dancing for joy and oh, I agree, the photos of
Abby enjoying the book are precious and means so much to me!

Keep well and safe, my friend. Xx

    1. Charley, thank you so much for your interest in and for trying to order my book. Amazon is currently prioritising on purchases customers most need … I’ve noticed crazy delivery times on products from Amazon but fair enough in these crazy days.

I hope you have a chance to read Oskar’s Quest sometime in the future. I always value your thoughts.

Hope you and your family are all well and bearing up. xx

  2. Video Chatting with Abby (4) and her sister, Sadie (6). I let them pick out books I would read to them. “Oskar’s Quest” was one of the books. I would leave out words and phrases and Abby would fill them in. Her sister got into it also. It was lots of fun and interactive and a way for me to connect and spend time with them. I hope you and your family are holding up amidst the challenging and changing world. Hugs and stay well! 💕

    1. Erica, bless you for coming back with your comment here! 😀 I’m deeply touched how Abby and Sadie are choosing Oskar’s Quest as one of the books to share whilst you chat via video link. How wonderful that they are filling in the words you leave out … I love how they know the book so well!

Thank you, my family and I are all bearing up in this most surreal world, I keep waiting to wake up from it all, or to step back to my former reality dimension.

I hope you and your family all keep well and safe … lots of love & hugs winging their way to you! ❤️

Hi Annika – what a fantastic post … I’m so pleased for you – and yes Abby looks totally hooked with Oskar – then congratulations on your first translation of the book – sounds like you’ve a winner here and in Germany … all the best now – those words ” courage, kindness and friendship.” – are so what we need today – take care and cheers Hilary

    1. Hilary, warmest thanks for your wonderful comment and it is fantastic to see how engaged Abby is with Oskar and his Quest!

How true, Erica’s words in her review are the guiding light for us all in this surreal world. I have experienced so much of it recently and meeting people along the street we’ve never met in twenty years, chatting from across the road!

Wishing you well and safe, hugs xx

  4. Behind the Story

Somehow I missed this post. I’m glad I found it. Oh, my! Those photos of Abby are really precious. You’re so right about the value of reviews–especially this one.

    Congratulations on the translation.

    1. Ahh … Nicki, lovely and cheering to read your comment! I feel blessed to have been able to share the photos of adorable young Abby with my book and the review! It is exciting with the translation… but all rather overshadowed at the moment. Hope you’re keeping safe and well. Xx

      1. Behind the Story

Thank you, Annika. Unfortunately, I’ve had a fever for the past two weeks. The good news is, it hasn’t turned into anything.

        Keep well.

  5. A translated version – and I expected it to be Swedish! Congratulations, Annika. It is a real feather in the cap. Thanks for the link to Erica – I will check her blog. It sounds interesting.

    1. Amanda, it’s exciting to have a translated version of Oskar’s Quest out on release … and the next one will be in Swedish! 😀 Erica, is a very special lady and her posts are always thoughtful, reflective and engaging! Enjoy!

  6. There’s something so uplifting about seeing a child read and enjoy a book. And then uplifting becomes pure joy when it’s YOUR children’s book the child is savoring. Beautiful photos by Erica of her adorable granddaughter. Yay to both of you. Yay to Oskard and the new translation. Keep on writing my dear friend.

    1. Pam, I love all your ‘Yays’! Thank you for them and your exuberance about Oskar’s Quest! 😀❤️ Children’s books are precious, dear to both the child and adult reader, a connection forged during the exchange as well as hopefully an entertaining, exciting and rewarding read!

Thank you, I will try to keep writing although at the moment my spirit is in a turmoil and finding it difficult to concentrate! The muse will return, I’m sure! Love & hugs xx ❤️🌺🦋

      1. Your muse is within you. Open up, and she will return! (That said, I’ve had muse-less times also. Sometimes we just have to breathe into the emptiness, knowing the creativity will return). ❤

        1. Hi Pam, You are also very much part of this timely coincidence/serendipity resulting in a ripple effect. You wrote a thoughtful post discussing ‘book reviews’ which then prompted me to begin adding reviews to Goodreads and Amazon. I am always sharing information with friends about books I love. I had not considered writing any reviews until your article. Often, we do not know how one small act may affect the people and the world around us. Thank you, Pam!

          1. Well, I just got all tingly reading this. But I can’t take the credit, because I’m sure I wrote about reviews after reading other bloggers talk about how important reviews are, and after other bloggers (like the great and wonderful and only Annika) have written reviews about my books. And now yours. Sigh. I wish we could all meet in a safe place and hug each other and talk for hours. Well, I suppose that’s what we do right here in the blogosphere! ❤

  7. Oh this was such a delightful post Annika… So much joy in seeing the smiles of Abby this beautiful little girl who is obviously so enjoying the story and your words .. It looks a beautifully illustrated book .
What a wonderful review this is… So deserving too..
And wonderful its now being translated…
Well DONE Annika… ❤ I have big, BIG smiles for you.. ❤ ❤

    1. Bless! 😀❤️ Sue, heartfelt thanks for your wonderful comment, your shared enthusiasm about the joy of my book and in the adorable photos of Abby enthralled by Oskar and his Quest!

The review had me dancing with happiness and amazing when a reader and child ‘get’ the story absolutely and all the words and images come together perfectly!

Sue, I have big smiles reading your comment, I’m equally brimming with sheer delight!

With much love, Annika xx ❤️

        1. I love seeing all of my favorite bloggers here with you, Annika. Sue, I read your last post and being sneaky commenting here, since you closed comments. But YES, staying away from TV and all the barrage of ‘bad news’ is smart. So is breathing, meditating, walking outdoors, and reading GREAT blogs like Annika’s. xoxoxo

          1. Wonderful to see you Pam too… And sorry about closing comments.. I just dislike people waiting too long for replies and knew I wouldn’t be on line as regular to keep updating comments..
I have been busy planting, painting and finished off my knitting project…. Meditating and visualising a different world from the one the media is replaying over and over right now…
So thank you… Sending Huge hugs your way.. Love and Blessings to both you and Annika.. 🙂

  8. This is absolutely a gorgeous post,Annika. I thought it was so wonderful you and Erica met up and her granddaughter Abby read your book and let you take photos. She eventually wrote the book review and let you post the photos of Abby reading Oskard’s Quest. I can’t think of anything more beautiful than this. Congratulation for the German translation of Oskard’s Qest. Pretty soon, children all over the world will be reading your book. I’m so so happy to hear this!! ❤

    1. Miriam, thank you so much for your great comment and it would be amazing if children from across the globe read my book … your encouraging words are a real boon! 😀 Alas, I’ve never met Erica in person! Hopefully I can make my way to Canada one day, however we formed a quick and strong bond via WP and she first shared the photo of Abby opening my book on the little girl’s fourth birthday in a comment in Jill’s blog! Abby’s delight in my book is a joy to see! I contacted Erica to ask permission to use the photos and she then mentioned she’d written a review, which was on amazon in Canada and she was trying to post it to the U.K. site. Alas, this is not possible but it was wonderful she had written so touchingly about the book … and in the process reminded me to check Amazon Ca where I was overjoyed to find one further review! Hope you have a lovely weekend, Miriam! 🌺

      1. Wow, Annika, how wonderful to hear the connection between you and Erica. This is something I appreciate so much in the WP community. I communicate with my blogger friends and talked about more things than with my family. It’s just because of the different subjects of the posts that create different responses.

I just notice that there are so many of the global friends are in UK. It would be wonderful for me to meet you and quite a few others.

As to Amazon reviews. The Amazon us now includes top international reviews. I have a few from India but only two are included. There are a couple from UK and one from Canada. A few from other countries managed to post reviews on US.
When I checked the reviews of other authors in the US, I find the international reviews also. I wonder if Amazon us the only Amazon who does that.

Congratulations to the book review from Erica and her sharing of the photos. What a joy. I couldn’t tell the size of the paperback from my Kindle. It looks like the size of the book that age level kids would love.

The California Governor just announced no meeting, gathering over 250 people. Our church stopped all the meeting. The services will continue with streaming so people can watch at home. Disneyland will be closed from tomorrow. The President just announced no entrance from 26 European countries plus some Asian and Middle East countries.
My husband and I will reduce gym and restaurant visits.

Enjoy your weekend, Annika. 🙂 ❤

        1. Miriam, thank you for the explanation about amazon including some international reviews … I’d seen this and wondered who decided which were included.

Yes, crazy worrying times … my son’s university is moving to online teaching and it will be good to have him home during all this. The restrictions totally understandable… a time for calm and patience. Xx

          1. I’ll email Amazon through KDP and request to include the other reviews from India and see what they’ll say.

Yes, we’re self-isolated because I must keep being healthy to prepare going to my daughter in 10 days when her second baby is born. ❤
